His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Kuriakose Mar Osthathios

Most Rev. Dr. Kuriakose Mar Osthathios was born on 1 July 1961 at Amayannoor, Kottayam, Kerala, into the Thadathil family, as the son of Thomas and Susamma. He was baptized on 15 July 1961 and given the name Kuriakose.

He completed his primary education at St. Thomas L.P. School and secondary education at Amayannoor High School. Having realized his call to the priesthood he joined the Infant Mary Minor Seminary, Marygiri, Tiruvalla, on 5 June 1977. He did his pre-degree studies in S.B. College, Changanassery. He pursued his philosophical and theological studies at St. Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary, Aluva, from 1980 to 1987.

He was ordained a priest on 30 December 1987 by His Grace Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios at St. John’s Cathedral, Tiruvalla. He celebrated his First Holy Mass on 31 December 1987 at St. Mary’s Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, Amayannoor.

During his early priestly ministry, he served in several parishes, including Kanam, Nedumavu, Kombazha, Adiperanda, Kunnamkulam, Vazhany, Chuvannamannu, and Chakkund.

He pursued higher studies in English Literature at St. Thomas College, Thrissur, and later obtained a Doctorate in Liturgy from the Pontifical Oriental Institute, Rome.

He has rendered dedicated service to the Church in various academic and administrative roles. He served as Professor at St. Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary (Resident Professor/Animator from 2001–2010 and Visiting Professor from 2011–2016), Rector of the Seminary (2017–2020), Catechism Director of the Archdiocese of Tiruvalla (2011–2013), and Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Tiruvalla(2013–2017). He was Secretary to the Synodal Commission for Liturgy from 2005 to 2010 and served as Master of Ceremonies of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church from 2001 to 2020.

In pastoral ministry, he served as Vicar of Tiruvanvandoor (2011–2013) and Chengaroor (2013–2017).

On 19 March 2021, he was appointed Coordinator of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Missions in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile he served as a parishpriest in Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Parish at Great Barr (2022-2025) and our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church Tile Hill Lane, Coventry in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham (2025-2026). Later, on 19 September 2025, the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, appointed him Apostolic Visitator for the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in the United Kingdom and Europe.

He was consecrated Bishop by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, Major Archbishop Catholicos of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church on 22 November 2026 at St. Mary’s Syro-Malankara Archiepiscopal Cathedral, Trivandrum. His Excellency assumed the office of Apostolic Visitator on 6^th December 2025.
