History and Development

Lourd Matha Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Urukunnu in the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum belongs to the Ecclesiastical district of Punalur. The first community of this parish was formed in 1956. This Parish was established and blessed by Late Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios.  A presbytery was built in 1975. The church was renovated by Rev. Fr. Samuel Kunnumpurath in 2005 and blessed by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis.
