The congregation of Besilian sisters “Daughters of St. Macrina’ is a catholic religious order for women in the Baziantain rite, founded on 8th July 1921 in Mezzojuso (Italy) by the servant of God Mother Macrina Raparelli and Fr Nilo Borgio. The congregation was approved by Pope Benedict XV on the 8 July 1921 and Pope blessed the Congregation with this words “congregation is not just a need but it is very essential to the Church”.
The Basilian Sisters, finding inspiration in the spirituality of the Oriental Saint Fathers, live their life with Gospel, in special way they observe the virtue of Faith, Love, Sacrifice, Simplicity and Humility. Their donation to God in the double mission: Contemplative and Active. The charism of the congregation is unity of the church. The congregation wants to live and to promote the charity of God, with prayer, testimony and the apostleship.

This congregation came to India in 1992. The congregation opened its first convent at Thiruvalla in Kerala in 1992.  The apostolic activities of the congregation in India include teaching catechism, family visit, working among the poor and the needy and education. At present, this convent is a formation center for sisters. There are now 21 Indian sisters in the congregation. Some of them working in Italy, Andra Pradesh and others are working here.

Inspired by the firm belief of our founder, India’s future is her enlightened children, the congregation started a public School in Thiruvalla named Basilian Public School (CBSE) in 2002. The motto of the school is “Love and Wisdom”. This school caters to the educational aspirations of people of this region from kindergarten to higher classes. The general aim of this school is academic excellence, integrated personality development of children and character formation. Therefore greater emphasis is given for the mental, spiritual and physical growth of the child.
