Synodal Commission for Education

The Synodal Commission for Education protects and promotes the right of the Church to establish and maintain educational institutions such as schools, colleges, universities, institutes of technical and higher education, etc. in the context of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church and the socio-political situation in India.

It takes necessary steps to protect minority rights as envisaged in the Constitution of India.

Subject to the approval of the Major Archbishop-Catholicos, the commission lays down the general policy of establishing and maintaining educational institutions.

With the consent of the Synod, the Commission is competent to establish institutions of higher education common to the Church, to enhance the opportunities of Malankara Catholic faithful in the service of the nation.

The commission keeps itself informed and ready so that the Church can respond to the changing circumstances and policies of the government and protect the Church’s rights.

The Commission is competent to supervise our educational institutions to see that the policies and programmes of the Church are implemented in them.

It co-operates with other entities and associations that are engaged in the field of education so that the common interest of the Church and the people our educational institutions serve is fostered.
